Above is one of my favourite quotes ...
one I try to live by on a daily basis.
I am originally from the Pickering area.
My husband Sean and I moved to the Kawarthas Lakes region in
2007. We love it here as we are surrounded by nature !
Can a person discover who they are meant to
be when they are eleven years old ?
Perhaps I didn't quite know it at the time,
but my first pottery class with
Mrs. Gay Liddell
of The Turning Point
in Claremont, began my never-ending love
of pottery and art.
I took a few detours in the road
over the years. None of which I regret. Those detours were
extremely
important and inspiring. I experienced sunrises and
sunsets, full moons and new moons, spring gardens and fall
colours, hiking in pine forests and strolling down sandy
beaches beside beautiful lakes.
My love for living plants and flowers is
illustrated in the unique designs and decoration on my
vessels. I continue to explore shapes, colours and
textures – which produce a diverse and evolving body of
work. I have expanded my portfolio to include
sculpture and wall art.
2009 has been a
wonderful year of development & creation ...
In 2009 we built and set-up my home-based
potter's studio on our beautiful rural property. I am
now fully able to create new and wonderful clay art. I
joined the local studio tour, teach classes, and hold
weekend workshops. Perhaps an eleven year old child
can learn from me as I did from
Mrs. Liddell, and another generation of
potters might be introduced to their life-long love.

I hope you enjoy viewing some of my pottery
in the
Photo Gallery
. It is a sample of functional pottery, sculptured
art, necklace pendants and pictures from where we live.

I am continuously inspired by
nature, music, poetry, family and friends.
Because of this,
I truly feel that my pottery and sculpture have endless
possibilities.

My Creations
: |
I am
driven to handcraft quality items, with the intent to bring
delight and special meaning to my audience. These pieces are
fully functional : oven, dishwasher, microwave safe, and meant to
be used and enjoyed.
My work
is one-of-a-kind in itself, with some textures and motifs
repeating and intermingling with each other.
The
evolution of my “wall art” is visually tangible and
exciting. My growing collection illustrates how multi faceted clay
work can be, and how many different paths can be taken in
creativity. Each piece is absolutely unique, and meant to be hung
indoors.

Shows & Events
: |
Having begun my dream of being a potter under
the business name “Claygarden
Pottery Studio”, I attended numerous indoor
and outdoor art and craft shows, and garden tours across
Ontario. These shows included a
One of a Kind Spring Show and a
Signatures Show, among
many others.
I have taught adult and children pottery
classes at The
Visual Arts Centre of Clarington, and on
occasion at Durham College,
Oshawa.
The Boyd Art Room
at the library in Bobcaygeon
has graciously displayed my art in the past and are planning
to do so into the future.
I have also been involved in a
Durham Potters Guild
display at The Station Gallery
in Whitby.

Alissa's work is fabulous. I have a mug which
I use daily. It has been washed many times and still looks
as good as the day I bought it.
While Alissa makes wonderful traditional pottery
(cups, bowls, plates), something that sets her apart is the
simple, yet beautiful, necklaces she fashions from her clay.
They come in a seemingly infinite variey of colours, shapes and
sizes. I currently own three of them and wear them
constantly as they are very versatile and add to any outfit.

I've known Alissa since she was 11
years old when she started taking pottery classes at my studio. I
recognized Alissa's passion for the medium as she returned for
more classes as a teen and then as an adult after her University
graduation.
Alissa has excellent aesthetic sense
in her wheel thrown, sculpture and wall art forms and loves to
explore and push these forms in new directions. We have
become close friends over the years and I celebrate her success as
a potter and sculptor.
