A Family Tradition of Cottaging and Fishing on Balsam Lake for 40 Years

2010 is our family's 41^st year at Shorelea 

We are looking forward to a great summer ! 

Second, and now even third generations, spend their summer holidays with us.  We look forward to having our guests visit year after year.  It is so interesting to see the changes as the children are another year older. 

Many of our families have an annual family weekend getaway at Shorelea.  Our resort is small enough that one family can rent several cottages and have their own private family gathering in the spring or fall. 

During the summer we rent on a weekly basis but if there is a cottage available we will also rent for a shorter time period.

We have several groups of fishermen who come for their annual fishing weekend in the spring or fall.  There are many fishing stories involving Balsam Lake that sound like tall tales.  But the lake has a healthy supply of walleye (pickerel), large and smallmouth bass, yellow perch, crappie and muskie.  Two of our recent notable catches were a bass at 5.5 pounds and a muskie that measured in at 51 inches in length.

Shorelea is open from May until September.  During the spring and fall we offer reduced prices. We try very hard to offer excellent service at a reasonable price and perhaps that is why our guests return regularly.

Cottage Rentals :

We offer one and two bedroom housekeeping cottages as well as a three bedroom unit.  We take great pride in keeping our cottages clean and inviting in the hope that our guests will feel at home.  They are well equipped with electric stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, dishes,  cooking utensils and satellite T.V.

Each unit has a three piece bathroom with shower.  There are blankets and pillows but guests are asked to bring their own sheets and towels.  Every cottage has a picnic table, two wooden chairs and a gas barbeque. 

We have well kept grounds on the shore of beautiful Balsam Lake.  Balsam is a lovely clean lake and our guests enjoy swimming, boating and fishing.  For some people, the sunset is a highlight and we have many eager photographers waiting for the sun to go down each evening.

We offer free docking.  We also rent 14 foot fishing boats by the week, day or half day.

There is a fire pit for those who like to end the day with a bonfire.  Some of our guests enjoy exploring the nearby towns and golf courses while others never leave the lakefront.  It is very interesting to watch the variety of boats that pass by as they travel the Trent Severn System.

Well equipped cottages. One, two and three bedrooms with electric heating.

Private bathrooms with shower.  Satellite televisions in each living room.

Complete kitchens including fridge, stove, microwave, standard pots, dishes and cutlery.

Outdoor gas barbeques at each cottage.  Also a picnic table and two outdoor chairs.

Good swimming and children's play area on site. 

Excellent fishing.  Free docking facilities.  Boat rentals are also available.

A short walk to restaurants, stores, churches and more.

Nearby towns are accessible by car and boat.  Three golf courses nearby.

Take your first right turn after the Rosedale Bridge. 

Then just one more right turn to get to Shorelea.  Follow the signs.

Special Facilities :

Parking is free and room for trucks with boat trailers. 

Our cottages are Smoke Free.  Smoking Outdoors is Permitted.
