NIGHT AFTER NIGHT

Two different effects  . . .

You can see the artwork whether it is on or off !

I have been an artisan all my life.  I love to create with my hands.

My latest passion, for the last seven years, has been making lamps and shades.  I am always trying out different ideas, exploring new designs, and in addition to making lamps from twigs, often incorporate other bits of nature into my creations.  I've used dried flowers, leaves, birch bark, mushrooms and antlers.

With our country farm setting, the inspiration from nature is endless.

My pieces are all hand made and hand painted.  Most are one of a kind.  It's a special thrill for me when a customer takes home a lamp from my studio, saying they have found just what they were looking for.  It keeps me inspired to create more !

My Creations :

When you come to Shades of St. Alban's, you will find dozens of lamps ranging from table size to floor lamps, made from twigs and birch branches – crowned by hand-painted shades in warm golden tones, with nature scenes reverse-painted in sillouette.

There are antique silver teapots and enamelware coffeepots that have found new life as unique lamps, also with one of a kind, hand painted shades, with eclectic or Victorian-inspired designs.

You will also find miniatures of these shades, in many colours of night-lights.  I also make Birch log tealight candle holders, painted with hummingbirds or butterflies.

Are you in search of just the right shade for your favourite lamp ?  or

Does your tired old shade need a new look ?

Then this is the place for you !  I will renovate your torn, worn-out shades into something exciting and new.  Bring in your fabric swatches and together we can match it with any design you like.

Does Grandma's old silver teapot spend too much time in the cupboard ?

Bring it here and give it a new purpose.  I can transform it into a unique lamp !

I love to dabble in other crafts that use different techniques such as gold-leafing, or antiqued finishes.  Often you will find a selection of hand painted real eggs that have been hollowed out and hung as ornaments.  There are hand carved Emu and Ostrich eggs.  My latest venture is turning Goose eggs into hand painted little lamps – very unique.  I enjoy painting on different 3-D surfaces, like Birch bark rather than on a canvas.

You never know what I will create next !  Please look at more of my creations in the Photo Gallery.  Contact me if you wish to inquire about any of my works or want to discuss a customized project.

 Reviews & Comments :

Agatha from Cameron, Ontario   ( November 2008 )  «««««

I am an avid fan of Suzi's beautiful lamps and shades.  I have four of them gracing my home, as well as a few of the amazingly detailed eggs she carves and paints.  I fell in love with an antique silver coffee pot and she created a unique lamp from it with the exact kind of shade that I described to her, adorned with lovely dried flowers.  Her studio is a joy to see !
